This was such a collaborative project with the owners, and really with many creative minds and elements at play. We brought in the expertise of sculptor, Matt Hall, to help us with the brass faucet for the water feature, toured Bentwood Tree Farm to pick out mature cloud-pruned pines, selected boulders together at Smith Rock, and scoured online and in person for the right fire pit, rain chains, and pots to make this landscape come together with cohesion.

The landscape had great bones, but the materials were a mismatch of small square pavers, deteriorating wood edging, river rock, and pea gravel pathways that were a pain to walk on, constantly squishing underfoot. The goal was to simplify the amount of materials for a cleaner look. We opted for 1/4 clear gravel that compacts nicely underfoot, corten steel edging, and oversized Castohn pavers. The lawn was reduced in the back to allow for better flow of traffic on pathways and greater planting area while still large enough for dog, Millie to get our her zoomies, and removed completely in the front. Large lichen covered Baker Blue granite boulders create a Japanese feel and places to sit throughout the garden. Prestige Landscape refreshed the pergola by widening and raising the height for improved social seating and fire pit usage.

The water feature is comprised of a 1,200 pound basalt rock with a naturally carved basin where water collects from a custom curved brass faucet and flows into an echo chamber surrounded by river rock for optimal sound in the landscape, and an ultimate bird lover's treat. Within just a few days, cedar wax wings were found playing in the water (scroll down for photo)!
